Assembly Bakery Video Case Study
The Assembly Bakery is award-winning bakery located in the Old Market area of Bristol. The business prides itself on its ethical stance, aiming to source their ingredients as responsibility as possible.
Their director, Matt Rimmer, got in touch with the West of England Apprenticeship Service to discuss recruiting and upskilling via apprenticeships as they rebuilt the business after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Matt wanted to provide cost-effective training and development opportunities for existing staff that would provide certification of competence in their baker roles, as well as rebuild the team and recruit new staff into the business.
We were able to support The Assembly Bakery by providing up-to-date apprenticeship information, impartial advice surrounding apprenticeship standards and training providers before facilitating calls with Scottish Bakers to discuss apprenticeship opportunities. We were also able to support the business to access levy transfers kindly gifted by Bristol City Council to meet the costs of the apprenticeship training through our Share to Support scheme!
Watch the video below to see what Matt and baker apprentice Beau had to say about their experience. If you’re an SME based in the West of England and want to find out more about how you can use apprenticeship to recruit and upskill, get in touch with us.

The service is led by the Western Training Provider Network, as part of the West of England Combined Authority's Workforce for the Future programme. The service is free to businesses, thanks to funding and support from the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
