West of England Combined Authority Strategy
As you are all aware the WECA is being formed as we speak, a new regional Mayor and officers have been appointed and a strategy for the region is being formed.
As a Network we have been asked (along with Business Groups, Universities, FE, Schools, and other regional bodies) to present a collective Provider response to the WECA's proposed regional strategy and long term investment plans.
This is a unique opportunity to give our views on a crucially important exercise. Investment decisions being planned now, will be based on what our region needs and could ultimately affect your future business plans and growth. At our regional meeting Henry Lawes (newly transferred to WECA) will help frame a discussion that we can take forward and present, I will follow up next week with more information, this is your chance to help shape the region and our future. The West of England Combined Authority and Local Enterprise Partnership are joint authors of this strategy discussion paper, developed in partnership with constituent councils, business, the universities and others.
The aim is that we develop a strategy that will be owned by everyone, allowing us to present a joined-up voice to government and promote the region nationally and internationally.
The West of England Combined Authority covers Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire and supports the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Joint Committee, which includes North Somerset.
The strategy discussion paper sets out high-level plans for delivering economic growth for all, under three pillars:
Businesses that succeed
World class skills for employment
Infrastructure fit for the future
We want businesses, organisations and others to engage with this strategy and give us their views on how we can improve it to ensure we can drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for all.
