Last night we were pleased to welcome over 80 parents and students to our Apprenticeships West webinar, “Hear experiences from local apprentices and take part in a live Q&A.”
The session aimed to demystify apprenticeships, covering:
What apprenticeships are and how they work
Levels, progression, and local opportunities
How recruitment and applications really work
A highlight of the evening was hearing directly from two local degree apprentices at Bristol City Council.
Rosie, a Public Health Degree Apprentice, shared her journey into an apprenticeship after A-levels, explaining how she chose to earn and learn, avoid student debt, and gain real-world experience while studying for a degree.
We were also grateful to Theo Lynden, an Environmental Health Degree Apprentice, who kindly stepped in at short notice. Theo spoke openly about his role, the variety of work involved, and the benefits of learning on the job within a large local employer, how he works in small teams with really senior professionals and really enjoys it.
Both apprentices gave honest insights into balancing work and study, developing confidence and professional skills, and why apprenticeships can be a strong alternative to full-time university.
